Press release date: November 2, 2011

MALVERN, PA, November 2, 2011-Johnson Matthey's Stationary Emissions Control (SEC) group and the HARCO Manufacturing Company announced today they will take advantage of their collective experience to collaborate on developing innovative HAPs catalytic converters with superior silencing to help customers comply with EPA's RICE NESHAP rule and other environmental regulations.

The RICE NESHAP (National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants) sets the limits for emissions of formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, acrolein, methanol and nearly 200 other toxic compounds from stationary diesel and gas engines, using formaldehyde as the regulated emission.

Johnson Matthey is the leader in controlling emissions from stationary gas and diesel engines and gas turbines with nearly a half-century of experience. Johnson Matthey introduced the original Hatchback catalytic converter and the first oxidation catalyst for gas turbines. Johnson Matthey manufactures its own catalysts and HARCO manufactures its own converter housings and silencers, together they will maintain total quality management of the final products.

Jeffrey Sherman, Business Director for Johnson Matthey's SEC North American business unit, said the alliance with HARCO will significantly strengthen the company's converter/silencer portfolio. "Sharing our technology with HARCO and vice versa will mean some great benefits for our industry and stationary engine owners.

"Johnson Matthey definitely has the tools and expertise to help our customers meet the RICE NESHAP by the compliance deadline, but HARCO's silencing expertise will enable us to provide even more support," continued Sherman. "Besides the advantage of new product innovation, we can offer customers a greater East and West Coast presence and the benefit of expanded distribution."
