Intrinsically Safe and Nonincendive Keyboards Built for Hazardous Areas

Austin, Tx. - Hazardous environments require equipment designed for safety and reliability, including computer peripherals that meet specific certifications. iKey manufactures a line of nonincendive and intrinsically safe keyboards and pointing devices that meet the required specifications to properly function in potentially volatile locations.

iKey's intrinsically safe (IS) keyboards and pointing devices are built with equipment and wiring that are incapable of releasing sufficient electrical or thermal energy that could cause ignition of a specific hazardous atmospheric mixture in its most easily ignited concentration. This is achieved by limiting the amount of power available to the electrical equipment in the hazardous area to a level below that could ignite the gases. All of iKey's IS keyboards have Factory Mutual certification for Class I, II, and III, Division I, Groups C, D, E, F, and G.

The nonincendive (NI) keyboards have electrical circuitry that is incapable, under normal operating conditions, of causing ignition of a specified flammable gas-air, vapor-air, or dust-air mixture due to arcing or thermal means. These keyboards have Factory Mutual certification for Class I, Division II.

Intrinsically safe and nonincendive products from iKey include desktop keyboards, panel mount keyboards, desktop pointing devices and panel mount pointing devices. Every IS or NI product features a stainless steel case or bezel with industrial silicone rubber keypads or overlays.
