Interpack 2014: Südpack Showcases a Variety of Innovations in Their Anniversary Year

Products combine safety, sustainability and convenience

(8-14 May 2014, Duesseldorf, Hall 10, Stand C22)

Ochsenhausen, Germany – Celebrating the group's 50th anniversary, Südpack Verpackungen GmbH & Co. KG presents a new dimension of film at interpack 2014. The company also showcases high-performance films designed for secure sealing even with contaminated seams, and films that fit the product like a second skin. One of this year's highlights is a new member of the re-sealable family Multipeel: Multipeel on Mono APET.

Innovation from Southern Germany: Veraplex

Veraplex is the main focus of the company's presentation at interpack. This new type of film was designed and developed by packaging specialists based on a unique technology. "Veraplex achieves an outstanding thickness-function performance ratio that is unprecedented in today's market. It's the film of the future," said Südpack Managing Partner Johannes Remmele. "Interpack is the packaging industry's leading trade event and a perfect place to introduce our new film."

Veraplex combines maximum product protection with a minimum amount of material. With a thickness of just 25 µm, the film is extremely thin, yet offers maximum puncture resistance with an extremely high oxygen and aroma barrier. The film is suitable for products with high mechanical requirements and for aggressive bulk products.

Veraplex uses far less material and saves valuable resources. The film is well suited for lamination with paper, which also improves eco sustainability by reducing the amount of film required while maintaining the same product protection properties. Veraplex combined with paper also convinces when it comes to product presentation. The renewable resource ensures stability while maintaining a natural look and feel. Consumers instantly recognize the ecological advantages of the packaging – a persuasive factor at point of sale.

Sealing layer expertise

The name SafePeel stands for top films for trays. Its special sealing medium works perfectly with contaminated seams. The packaging can be peeled open for maximum consumer comfort. SafePeel film is also characterized by excellent anti-fog properties, which prevents unsightly water drops.

Südpack also introduces two new tray films to the international trade show audience at interpack. SafePeel Hot and CanLid Peel offer outstanding sealing properties and are designed for use in ovens and microwaves. Thanks to excellent sealing properties, SafePeel Hot can be pasteurized and is ideal for convenience products. Polypropylene (PP) is used as a sealing medium in the tray and top film. SafePeel Hot is extremely durable and fulfills the highest safety requirements, even with multi-chamber trays.

Easy-to-use CanLid Peel top film for trays offers outstanding barrier properties and is extremely durable. The white top film offers the best possible visual cover, protects the packaged product from light and enables a wide variety of eye-catching designs to attract attention at point of sale. Both SafePeel Hot and CanLid Peel offer a long processing window and can be pasteurized to prevent germ formation, thus extending product shelf life.

Multi S V top film is another innovation from Südpack designed to completely seal the product. The top film tightly fits the product without changing its shape or form. Multi S V offers outstanding barrier properties and is puncture-resistant. At the same time, the film is highly transparent and offers a clear view of the product. Südpack supplies both the top film Multi S V and base films, which enables the company to perfectly match properties. Packages can be easily and smoothly opened without forming threads.

Expertise in re-sealable packaging

Südpack further presents a new development in the established Multipeel series: Multipeel on Mono APET. The re-sealable film can be processed on all thermoforming machines and is particularly tear-resistant. Multipeel on Mono APET is easy to re-seal thanks to its very rigid material. At the same time, the top and base films are extremely thin, which saves weight and storage space while providing the accustomed protection for packaged goods and efficient handling, for instance during roll changes. The barrier properties of Multipeel on Mono APET can be flexibly adapted to meet the requirements of the packaged goods. This extends their shelf life and facilitates optimal gas exchange, especially for cheese products. The packaging is persuasive at point of sale thanks to its brilliant shine and clear view of the product inside. Packaging solutions with Multipeel on Mono APET use far less material and are especially suitable for manufacturers that support eco sustainability. The amount of material in the overall packaging can be reduced by up to 20 percent without sacrificing product protection.
