233 Kansas St.
El Segundo, CA, 90245
USA

Press release date: November 6, 2007

EL SEGUNDO, Calif.-International Rectifier, IR® (NYSE: IRF), a world leader in power management technology, today announced that its iMOTION(TM) integrated design platform for variable speed motor control has won a prestigious environmental design award from Electronic Product Design magazine's E-Legacy Awards.

Introducing the award, Caroline Hayes, editor, Electronic Product Design, said that the environmental design category reflects the electronics industry's responsible approach to energy use through electronic engineering solutions, "This category received the most entries out of the six in the E-Legacy Awards, a sign of the interest and activity in this area of electronics design. The E-Legacy Awards were voted for by the readers of Electronic Product Design, so International Rectifier has been recognized by the electronics industry in the UK for its work in power conservation."

Commenting on the award, David Tam, vice president of International Rectifier's Energy-Saving Products Segment said, "We are delighted to receive the environmental design award from the readers of Electronic Product Design. IR's mission is to develop power management innovations that conserve energy, and the iMOTION approach should accelerate deployment of energy-efficient motors, helping us to save a great deal of electricity."

About the IRMCF341 Integrated Design Platform

The high-performance IRMCF341 washer control IC integrates all the control and analog interface functions required for sensorless speed control of PMS motors using DC link current measurements. The digital control IC features IR's patented Motor Control Engine (MCE(TM)) that eliminates software coding from the Motor Control algorithm development process. A co-integrated 60MIPS, 8-bit, 8051 microcontroller enables application layer software development, operating almost independently of the MCE and does not compete for system resources such as interrupts or internal registers. The embedded Analog Signal Engine (ASE) integrates all the signal conditioning and conversion circuits required for single current shunt, sensorless control of a PMS motor. The IRMCF341 control IC is available in a 64-pin QFP package with all the required analog inputs and PWM outputs to control the washing machine motor.

Companion IRAMS06UP60B and IRAMS10UP60B inverter power modules include the dc-link shunt used for both motor-current measurement and power-module protection. Design tools include MCEDesigner(TM) that generates wash-cycle profiles and plots motor speed and current, accelerating rapid evaluation of direct-drive motor performance with real washing loads. More details on the iMOTION platform, as well as links to design assistance, are posted on the iMOTION Web page.
