Family of "Truly" Large Format Cells Achieve Important Safety Certification

ALLENTOWN, Pa - International Battery (www.internationalbattery.com), a U.S. manufacturer and developer of large-format lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, is pleased to announce that the company continues to have its large-format cells successfully pass thorough and rigorous abuse testing in accordance with UN Transportation Testing (UN/DOT 38.3). The cells include the 60Ah and 160 Ah iron phosphate as well as the 90Ah and 200Ah nickel cobalt manganese cells.

U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and its international counterparts responsible for regulations that govern the transportation of hazardous materials base their regulations on the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods Model Regulation and UN Manual of Tests and Criteria. The testing consisted of eight procedures that simulate the different environments and situations that exist during transport of lithium cells or batteries from the manufacturing facility to the customer. The specific procedures are altitude simulation, thermal test, vibration, shock, external short circuit, impact and forced discharge.

"Continuing to pass UN Transportation Testing requirements is a testament not only to the quality and safety of our lithium-ion battery cells, but also to our validated water-based manufacturing process," said Dr Ake Almgren, President and CEO of International Battery.

International Battery's proprietary large-format, prismatic lithium ion technology allows it to offer customers innovative battery system solutions.
