WASHINGTON--The science behind animal biotechnology can be difficult to comprehend but even more difficult to communicate successfully to your intended audience. Delivering your information about science discoveries is as important as the discoveries themselves, so attendees will get the opportunity to hone their communications techniques during specially produced communications programming at this year’s Livestock Biotech Summit. The 2014 Summit will be held September 16-18, 2014, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.

“Attendees will hear from expert communicators on strategies to communicate effectively around animal biotechnology”

“Attendees will hear from expert communicators on strategies to communicate effectively around animal biotechnology,” said David Edwards, director of Animal Biotechnology at BIO. “Consumer confidence relies on good communication and education.”

On Tuesday, September 16, the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science will present the session “Distilling your Message on Animal Biotechnology.” At this interactive plenary session, attendees will learn and practice tools we all can use to fine tune how we talk about a complicated technology in ways that are meaningful to listeners at various levels of understanding.

Additionally, on Tuesday, September 16, Dr. Alison Van Eenennaam, Animal Genomics and Biotechnology Professor at the University of California at Davis and 2014 Borlaug CAST Communication Award winner along with Charlie Arnot, CEO, Center for Food Integrity will panel a session titled “Messaging about Animal Protein.” Here, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from expert communicators on how they communicate information around the rapidly growing appetite for animal protein and what challenges we can expect to face us as we explain to consumers the need for this technology in order to help feed a growing population.
