Imsys Technologies Launches IEEE 1588 Development Kit with Integrated Timer Block for Clock Synchronization

Imsys Technologies, an established manufacturer of processors, modules and
tools for embedded applications, today announces a development platform for
the IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol.

The transition from circuit connectivity to packet-based systems creates a need to get
equipment synchronized with each other. The IEEE 1588 2002 is already part of the LXI
Consortium, Ethernet Powerlink and Ethernet/IP standards. Revision 2 of the protocol that
will include many enhancements is expected to become public later this year and allow for a
sub microsecond accuracy thereby satisfying the need for the telecom industry for use in
base stations including femtocells. The 1588 Development Kit is an easy to use tool and
includes an API where time and frequency can be adjusted by the application program.
A periodic output, PPS, and a user specified frequency such as 10 or 30.72 MHz can be
achieved. The developer can choose between a mix of ASM32, C and Java programming
language. Imsys is cooperating with Zurich University of Applied Science, ZHW, for the
implementation of the protocol stack.

"The combination of our field proven products and state of the art IEEE 1588 protocol
implementation enables designers to get high accuracy synchronized clocks at an affordable
price", says Ola Andersson, Imsys CEO.

The time stamping engine with adjustment for time and frequency is demonstrated at the
Embedded Systems Conference in San José this week, Booth 1916.

The SNAP 1588 Development Kit hardware platform is shipping mid April 2007 with the
1588 protocol stack software following mid May.
