Press release date: June 11, 2012

Anaheim, Calif. - Econolite today announced that the Intelligent Transportation Society of New York (ITS-NY), at its Annual Conference, awarded the Outstanding ITS Project of the Year to Econolite and its partner, Century Business Horizons, Inc (CBH), along with NYC DOT, KLD Associates, and Transcore. Econolite and CBH were honored for the Remote Traffic Microwave Sensor (RTMS) non-intrusive radar detection systems used in the "Midtown in Motion" project.

Midtown in Motion is a technology-based traffic congestion relief project, addressing 110-square blocks from Second to Sixth Avenues and from 42nd to 57th Streets in Midtown Manhattan. The program includes a suite of new traffic monitoring equipment, including 100 RTMS detection systems from Econolite, that are leveraged to monitor and measure traffic volumes, occupancy and speed at various mid-block locations. "The new system enables traffic engineers to identify traffic incidents and congestion in real-time, and then make immediate signal timing adjustments from the traffic management center," said CBH President Al Shapiro.

"We are honored to receive this important award from ITS-NY," said Econolite VP of RTMS Sales Mike Ouellette. "The recognition of RTMS in such a progressive project is further validation of the advanced capabilities of above ground detection. We are excited that RTMS will continue to support New York's advanced transportation management efforts to relieve congestion."

RTMS http://www.econolite.com/products/detection is a roadside radar detection technology that is easy to install without traffic disruptions or lane closures. It combines high-resolution radar, with options for contact closures, serial and wireless communications, and Ethernet communications with an IP camera. Its sleek, cabinet-free detection station is simple to integrate into any traffic management system, including comprehensive ITS programs. RTMS G4 offers convenient Bluetooth setup and provides additional transportation management and data capabilities for up to 12 lanes.
