ISPE Announces 2010-2011 Board of Directors Election Results



(TAMPA, FLORIDA, USA,) - ISPE, a global not-for-profit association of 22,000 pharmaceutical science and manufacturing professionals, has announced the results of its 2010-2011 International Board of Directors election, revealing a slate of representatives that hail from nearly every corner of the globe.

"I'm very pleased with the diverse composition of our incoming Board of Directors," said ISPE President and CEO Bob Best. "ISPE's Members can only benefit from the myriad of backgrounds represented by our incoming Board in terms of geography, areas of interest, and areas of expertise."

The following pharmaceutical industry professionals have been elected to positions on the 2010-2011 ISPE International Board of Directors:

Andre Walker, CPIP, Chairman - Mr. Walker is Director of Manufacturing Engineering and Facilities for Biogen Idec's Large Scale Commercial Manufacturing Operation in Hillerod, Denmark. A member of the ISPE International Board of Directors since 2003, he is currently serving as Vice Chair. His past contributions to the Society include four years on the North American Affiliate Council, two of which he served as chair, and several years on the Boston Area Chapter Board, including terms as vice president, program chair, and president. Walker also holds a CPIP(TM) credential.

Arthur "Randy" Perez, PhD, Vice Chairman - Dr. Perez currently holds the position of Director, IT Risk Management and Compliance for Novartis Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Perez was instrumental in the formation of GAMP Americas when that group started in 2000, and served as Chairman from 2002-2008. He initiated and led the Global Information Systems SIG, who wrote a GAMP® Good Practice Guide that was published in 2005, and was part of the core team that led the development of GAMP® 5, published in 2008. In 2005 he was elected to the ISPE International Board of Directors, most recently serving as Treasurer.

Charlotte Enghave Fruergaard, PhD, Treasurer - Dr. Enghave Fruergaard is employed as Director of Technology, Finished Pharma at NNE Pharmaplan in Denmark. Enghave Fruergaard has been a Member of ISPE since 1995, and is the current Secretary on the International Board of Directors. She is co-founder of ISPE Nordic Affiliate in 2000, and the Affiliate's immediate past Chairman. She is a member of ISPE Sterile Products Processing COP steering committee as well as on the Editorial Board for the magazine Pharmaceutical Engineering.

Damian Greene, Secretary - Mr. Greene is Senior Director Plant Network Strategy for Pfizer Global Manufacturing in New York. Greene has served as Chair of the ISPE Community of Practice Council and as Chair of the API COP. Greene currently serves on the ISPE International Board of Directors.

Re-elected Directors:

Steve Tyler - Mr. Tyler is a Director of Strategic Quality and Technical Operations in Global Pharmaceutical Operations at Abbott Laboratories, a worldwide-diversified health care company, in Abbott Park, Illinois, USA. He has served on the ISPE PQLI® control strategy team since 2007 and currently serves on the PQLI Management Committee and co-chairs the PQLI Technical Committee. Mr. Tyler has been a member of the ISPE International Board of Directors since 2008.

Guy Wingate, PhD - Dr. Wingate is currently Vice-President & Compliance Officer for Global Manufacturing & Supply at GlaxoSmithKline. Dr. Wingate has been involved with the GAMP COP for 17 years in various capacities; most recently he has chaired its governing body GAMP Council 2000-2010 and led the Task Teams producing GAMP®4, GAMP®5 and the GAMP® Good Practice Guide on Compliant Electronic Records and Signatures. Currently he is Co-Chair of ISPE's Task Team writing a new ISPE Guide for the Science and Risk-Based Approach for the Specification, Design, and Verification of Facilities, Utilities, and Equipment Systems which is based on ASTM E55 principles. Wingate was first elected to the ISPE International Board of Directors in 2008.

New Directors:

Joe Famulare - Mr. Famulare is the Global Head of Quality, External Relations and Collaboration, for Genentech, Member of the Roche Group, based in Washington, DC. He has served in many capacities in ISPE over the years, first as a regulator participating in ILF, RAC, PQLI events, and speaking at many conferences globally. Since moving into the pharmaceutical industry, Mr. Famulare has been active in these same areas, serving on the Regulatory Affairs and PQLI Committees, and has launched an effort to co lead in the area of Pharmaceutical Quality Systems for PQLI.
Gordon Leichter, PhD - Dr. Leichter is currently the East Coast Sales Manager for Belimed Infection Control. Leichter has been an active member of ISPE throughout his career, serving on a number of Chapter boards, giving technical presentations, leading seminars, writing articles, participating and chairing various committees, as well as holding a leadership role on the 2006 Facility of the Year winning team. Currently he is the Executive Vice President of the New Jersey ISPE Chapter, Chair of the Sterile Products Processing (SPP) COP; and past-chair of the ISPE Body of Knowledge Committee.
Steve Williams - Mr. Williams is a founding director, partner and senior consultant with SeerPharma Pty Ltd. He has served in many capacities in ISPE, including as a member of the ISPE Education Committee and a Member of the Curriculum Advisory Committee (Industry Representative) - Pharmaceutical Good Manufacturing Practice and Quality Assurance Post Graduate / Masters Program - Swinburne University. In addition, Mr. Williams is Immediate Past Chairman of the ISPE Professional Certification Commission (PCC) which oversees the CPIP credential.

In addition to those named above, Directors Antonio Buendia, Winnie Cappucci, Doyle Johnson, Morten Stenkilde, and Andrzej Szarmanski, each of whom were elected in 2009 to serve a 2-year term, will continue their service on the Board.
