ISO TC 260 to Hold Plenary in Conjunction with World HR Conference in Australia
U.S. Leadership Helps Progress Work on Global Human Resources Standards
A newly formed International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) working on international human resource standards will hold its second plenary meeting on September 24-25 in Melbourne, Australia. ISO TC 260, Human resource management, will explore human resources (HR) practices around the world with a view to adopting uniform standards in areas such as terminology, measurement, and governance. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) serves as the Secretariat for ISO TC 260.
The meeting will be hosted by Standards Australia (SA), and as many as 50 representatives from a broad array of countries are expected to attend. It will precede the 2012 World HR Congress (HRIZON), to be held in Melbourne on September 26-27. The first plenary meeting of ISO TC 260 was held in November 2011 in Washington, D.C., with delegations from 12 countries in attendance.
"The meeting will not only be a fabulous opportunity to further define and advance the practice of human resource management, but will also occur in an environment where an assembly of other global experts are sharing their wisdom about how to make workplaces more effective and humane," said committee chair Lee Webster, who also serves as director of HR standards for ANSI member the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM). SHRM serves as the ANSI-accredited U.S. Technical Activity Group (TAG) Administrator to ISO TC 260.
ANSI president and CEO S. Joe Bhatia said, "As the U.S. member body to ISO, ANSI is pleased to provide leadership for ISO TC 260. The proposal for this important technical activity was advanced to us by SHRM, and we are proud to work closely alongside them on international standards that will offer broad, coordinated guidance to HR practitioners the world over."
The HRIZON conference is being hosted by the Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI). "By holding the plenary standards meeting in Australia during September, the committee has chosen to be in the right place at the right time," said Peter Wilson, AHRI national president. "This is a first for much-needed HR standards that will cross borders, and it is very pleasing to see the presence of a high level of collaboration. There will be plenty of interest in the deliberations of the committee and congress delegates will eagerly look forward to hearing a report on its findings."
