The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Consumer Policy Committee (COPOLCO) has launched a quarterly newsletter on standardization activities of interest to consumers.

ISO Consumer Update aims to inform the members and constituents of COPOLCO about important events and developments within ISO and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) that are of particular relevance to consumers. The newsletter will also draw COPOLCO members' attention to important news, issues, and consultations involving the committee's work.

The first issue contains an update about relevant International Standards, COPOLCO news, national standards and consumer protection legislation, and other interesting facts.

The newsletter is available electronically, and is free for all interested consumers. For future editions, stakeholders may subscribe to the newsletter directly at http://www.iso.org/consumerupdate.

As the U.S. member of ISO, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) maintains a Consumer Interest Forum (CIF), which has as one of its roles active engagement in ISO COPOLCO. Those interested in getting involved in the CIF should contact James McCabe, ANSI senior director of consumer relations and IDSP (jmccabe@ansi.org).
