IPC Names Phil Carmichael as President of IPC China



BANNOCKBURN, Ill., USA, — IPC – Association Connecting Electronics Industries® announces the appointment of Philip S. Carmichael as its new president of IPC China. Carmichael will be visiting Greater China in December 2012 and will relocate in January 2013.



Carmichael is an experienced business professional who has served in five Fortune 500 companies since 1983, building successful, sustainable businesses in China, Japan and across the Asia-Pacific region. Living in the Asia region for more than 30 years, he has strong cross-cultural leadership skills, strong knowledge of business-to-business markets in Asia and strong business relationships throughout the region. In his most recent positions, Carmichael served as CEO and a Board of Directors member of Unisteel Technologies Ltd.; president of the Asia Pacific subsidiary of Haier Group; chairman of Asia Pacific and corporate vice president of Lexmark; and corporate vice president and regional director for China, Taiwan, Korea and Hong Kong for Rockwell International.



“Phil’s demonstrated abilities to work on a global basis and set a vision and course for success make him the ideal person to lead IPC in Greater China,” says IPC President & CEO John Mitchell. As president of IPC China, Carmichael will lead the organization’s China operations and staff; and he will report to Mitchell. Working with the IPC Board and executive team, Carmichael will lead strategy development and execution in China.



“I am excited to put to use my years of corporate experience to build IPC’s presence in China and to assist our members in reaching their business goals,” says Carmichael. “I look forward to helping bring IPC China to new levels of prominence and effectiveness.”



In addition to having extensive business experience, Carmichael is vice chairman and founder of the Capital Club of Beijing, China’s first private business club with 1,100 members. He is also a Board Emeritus Director of Children’s Medical Foundation, an organization supporting underprivileged children in Asia. Carmichael has been a regular contributor on Asian business dynamics at forums hosted by The Economist and Forbes and regularly appeared on CNBC.



Carmichael has a Ph.D. (Hon) from Abertay University UK, attended the University of Chicago’s MBA program and earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland, Far East Division. He is fluent in both Mandarin Chinese and English.
