IPC Hand Soldering Competition to heat up productronica 2013.

During productronica 2013, November 12–15, IPC's Hand Soldering Competition will recognize best skills in hand soldering complex printed board assemblies. Over 4 days, participants will compete against each other to build functional electronics assembly within 45-minute time limit. Assemblies will be judged on soldering in accordance with IPC-A-610E Class 3 criteria, speed at which assembly was produced, and overall electrical functionality of assembly.

IPC Hand Soldering Competition to Heat Up productronica



BANNOCKBURN, Ill., USA, — In the cool November weather in Munich, IPC’s Hand Soldering Competition is sure to heat things up at productronica 2013, stand A3.415. Skilled competitors will go soldering iron to soldering iron, November 12–15, as they compete for cash prizes and a coveted spot at the IPC Hand Soldering World Championship at IPC APEX EXPO® in Las Vegas in 2014.



Hand soldering of high density printed boards demands highly skilled operators to ensure a zero-defect soldering process, and this contest — IPC’s first competition at productronica — will recognize the best skills in hand soldering complex printed board assemblies. Over four days, participants will compete against each other to build a functional electronics assembly within a 45-minute time limit. Assemblies will be judged on soldering in accordance with IPC-A-610E Class 3 criteria, the speed at which the assembly was produced and overall electrical functionality of the assembly. IPC-A-610 Master Instructors from IPC licensed master training centers PIEK and IFTEC will serve as the judges.



The IPC Hand Soldering Competition winner and two runners-up will each earn cash prizes: 1st place — Euros500; 2nd place — Euros300; 3rd place — Euros100. In addition, the first place winner will earn a chance to compete against the best hand soldering technicians from around the world at the IPC World Championship at IPC APEX EXPO® in Las Vegas, on March 27, 2014.



Competition entries will be accepted until October 25 at www.ipc.org/hsc-productronica. Participation is limited and competitors will be selected on a first come, first served basis.
