Manufacturability and Maximum Efficiency the Focus of IPC Designers Day
BANNOCKBURN, Ill., USA, August 21, 2008 - Experts have estimated that board designers dictate 75 percent of the cost of final printed boards, solely based on design choices made before the designs leave the CAD stations. Given today's business climate where work projects grow in complexity, the role of the designer has become more crucial in helping his or her company out-perform the competition. To help put the right tools in designers' hands, the IPC Designers Council will host IPC California Designers Day on October 22, 2008, in Irvine, Calif. Designers Day will focus on guiding designers in making the right choices for manufacturability and maximum efficiency.
Conference topics will include the future of the design industry, DFM guidelines, choosing the right PCB material for specific applications, embedded passives in PCBs, and signal integrity and manufacturing issues.
"As technology advances, designers are constantly challenged by new issues, says Scott McCurdy, president of the Orange County Designers Council chapter. "It's vital that designers expand their knowledge about advanced design techniques and the IPC California Designers Day symposium will allow designers to hear from industry experts in a local, low-cost forum."
Javier Jimenez, president of the Los Angeles Designers Council chapter, agrees, "The stakes are too high for designers to fall behind the advancements in technology. The symposium is designed to provide the ideal learning experience to enhance a designer's skills and knowledge in every facet of the design layout process."
Following the day-long conference, Certified Interconnect Designer (CID) and/or Advanced Certified Interconnect Designer (CID+) workshops will be held on October 23-25, 2008. "Certification stands as a clear testimony of a designer's qualifications, knowledge and skill level," says Dieter Bergman, IPC director of technology transfer. "Designers with staying power are the ones who have challenged themselves through education and applying the new techniques they have learned."
