IIJ Technology Customers Receive More Reliable, Flexible, Cost-effective Storage Services
SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 10 / / - Brocade(R) (NASDAQ: BRCD), the leader in networked storage solutions that help enterprises connect and manage their information, today announced that IIJ Technology (IIJ-Tech) selected Brocade 48000 Directors to build its innovative 3-tier Storage Area Network (SAN) to provide a much more flexible IT foundation for delivering its Integration and Business Platform Service (IBPS) data management service. The deployment allows IIJ-Tech to flexibly and quickly offer the service, responding to its customers' data management needs in the most efficient manner possible.
IIJ-Tech's IBPS provides enterprise customers with IT infrastructure services, including networks, servers, and storage. When IIJ-Tech extensively renovated IBPS in 2003, the company expanded its network by building a core-edge SAN that centrally managed data traffic between servers. After the expansion of the network, however, IIJ-Tech experienced rapid growth in its customer base as well as in the amount of data the company was managing on behalf of its customers. As a result, the company was forced to expand its SAN environment, so that it could optimize connectivity across its data centers, while improving storage utilization and increasing scalability for future network expansion.
IIJ-Tech was interested in improving the reliability of its services as well as increasing the flexibility in its system configurations, so the company decided to implement directors to advance its existing core-edge SAN and build a new edge-core-edge SAN infrastructure. After evaluating several options, IIJ-Tech selected Brocade 48000 directors based on the company's positive experience with previous-generation Brocade directors. The Brocade 48000 offered advantages in port densities as well as cost and power efficiencies. The power efficiency was a significant factor for IIJ-Tech, particularly when considering further expansions of its network.
By the end of September 2007, IIJ-Tech thoroughly completed the implementation of the newly expanded SAN environment, followed by its full- fledged operation which began in October. The expansion of the SAN environment enables IIJ-Tech to further integrate its existing SAN environment to improve system operability and availability. As a result, the company is now capable of providing its customers with more reliable and flexible storage services at lower costs.
"With the newly built edge-core-edge SAN environment, IIJ-Tech is now capable of providing enterprise customers with more flexible and reliable services. And we are better able to address customers' needs for managing rapid data growth, as well as compliance and data protection requirements," said Masakazu Tachikui, Division Director, IBPS Division, Technical Division Headquarters, IIJ-Tech. "As our data centers continue to grow, we fully expect Brocade to provide the comprehensive data center solutions we require as we expand in the future."
