IDSP Convenes Third Plenary Meeting, Solicits Input on Future Work

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) held the third plenary meeting of its Identity Theft Prevention and Identity Management Standards Panel (IDSP) April 27-28, 2009, in Arlington, VA. The IDSP is a cross-sector coordinating body working to reduce identity theft and fraud by promoting the development and use of voluntary consensus standards and best practices.

With close to 100 participants, the April meeting took a point-in-time look at the state of identity theft prevention and identity management. Panel discussions considered progress made on a number of fronts and looked ahead at areas that still need attention and that may be ripe for future IDSP work. Agenda topics included: best practices for measuring identity theft [see related article], implementation of the FTC red flags rule, customer authentication and the use of Social Security numbers, the need for identity verification guidelines [see related article], identity assurance life-cycle management, biometric implementation use cases, medical identity theft, and what's on the horizon for ID theft prevention and ID management. To obtain a copy of the proceedings, please send an e-mail to idsp@ansi.org.

The IDSP is now soliciting input on its future work program. Current members and newcomers alike are encouraged to complete a short survey and to weigh in with proposals for new workshops by June 1. The IDSP Steering Committee will review the survey responses and an announcement will follow regarding the future program of work.
