IBC 2013: DVS Redefines Broadcast Production with VENICE

IBC 2013: DVS redefines Broadcast Production with VENICE

With the innovative functions of its VENICE Media Production Hub, Rohde & Schwarz DVS GmbH (DVS) is once again opening up new opportunities in broadcasting at IBC 2013. Since 4K is becoming more and more important in broadcast workflows, VENICE now offers users the opportunity to play out this resolution in the highest possible production quality. Furthermore, a Media Asset Management solution, which is specially tailored to the needs of content teams, expands the studio product line.

Hanover/Amsterdam. From September 13 - 17 on booth 7.E25 at IBC, Rohde & Schwarz DVS GmbH (DVS) will be showing how TV studios can make their production workflow more effective and cost-efficient by using the VENICE Media Production Hub. In addition to its future-ready video features, VENICE paves the way for highly optimized file-based workflows in studio production. Thanks to the multitude of supported file formats, codecs and resolutions up to 4K UHD, the Media Production Hub offers total flexibility and is completely future-proof. DVS has also expanded its studio production line with an innovative Media Asset Management solution.

Versatility and ease of integration into existing workflows are at the heart of the Media Production Hub's design. It is also available in multiple versions with different chassis sizes, channel numbers and internal storage capacities. VENICE Element is designed specifically to meet the needs of studio and channel playout.

VENICE supports resolutions from SD to HD as well as 4K. This enables broadcasters to add future-ready solutions to their workflows right now without tying themselves to a specific resolution. With its open system architecture, VENICE offers the best possible basis for high-quality 4K playout. With the support for codecs such as Sony XAVC for HD and 4K in VENICE, DVS is demonstrating its ability to adapt rapidly to meet new standards.

The Avid Workflow Option enables the unique collaboration with Avid production environments, with VENICE combining direct signal and file ingest in Avid ISIS® and Interplay®. As the material can be viewed and cut during recording, the content can be created more quickly and the workflow designed more efficiently as a result. Another new feature that will be presented at IBC is the outgest function. It allows individual clips or entire sequences cut in Media Composer® to be transferred from ISIS/Interplay environments for direct playout using VENICE or for further file distribution.

DVS has added an innovative Media Asset Management solution to its studio production line. With its ease of use, it is specially tailored to the needs of content teams who can conveniently search all their media files and, for instance, prepare their news cut. The integration in VENICE and Spycer® helps make workflows seamless, fast and effective. The system is modular in design and can also be scaled afterwards.

The support of manufacturer-independent interfaces such as MOS and FIMS allows for flexibility in the workflow. By doing so, DVS was the world's first company to incorporate the FIMS open communications standard, which has been approved by the AMWA (Advanced Media Workflow Association) in the USA and the EBU (European Broadcast Union) in Europe, into a system.

Currently, the FIMS services "Transform" and "Capture" are supported.

Niklas Fabian, Product Manager at DVS: "We are working continually on helping broadcasters set up their workflows even more efficiently by using our VENICE Media Production Hub. With its compatibility with all known broadcast solutions, its modular and open design, and its multi-channel software and hardware architecture, VENICE lays the foundation for all of this."
