Press release date: August 29, 2007

In time for the IBC 2007, DVS Digital Video Systems GmbH supports current developments in broadcasting. The Germany-based manufacturer is ready to assist TV stations' migration to HDTV with a suitable disk recorder product: the ProntoXway. Addressing the boadcaster's archiving projects, DVS will also showcase the flexibility of the JPEG2000 format

Hanover/Amsterdam. At this year's IBC, broadcast will be a focus at the DVS booth, in addition to 4K, digital cinema, and partnerships. At booth 7.421, DVS will comprehensively address broadcaster requirements such as turnkey HDTV systems, simulcast, and archiving solutions.

Since the timeframe for HDTV migration has gained definition, TV stations have intensified their scouting for suppliers of high-quality image processing systems. The future solutions that broadcasters require for tapeless operation must build on existing infrastructures while integrating innovative concepts. With DVS, the broadcasting industry may rely on an experienced business partner, since the company is well aware of the critical challenges in HD migration. Thanks to its many years of experience in HD post production, DVS is able to offer professional consulting services along with suitable products.

At the Amsterdam exhibition, DVS will demonstrate for the first time a disk recorder product for broadcasters. The ProntoXway disk recorder by DVS functions as a multi-channel server, handling the recording and playback of HDTV material simultaneously. ProntoXway also covers TV station requirements for simulcast operation - the parallel broadcasting of HD and SD material.

With the introduction of tapeless broadcasting, the archiving methods employed by broadcasters are also changing. The JPEG2000 format facilitates the archiving of high-volume HDTV content, since this format allows high-resolution images to be effectively compressed and stored.

Hans-Ulrich Weidenbruch, DVS Managing Director: "We stand ready to successfully assist the broadcasting industry with our hardware and software solutions. This year's IBC is an opportunity for us to present the details of our systems to TV stations and support them in their migration to HDTV."
