Press release date: September 10, 2008

LINTHICUM, Md. - September 10, 2008 - Hydro Aluminum's Extrusion Americas unit unveiled a new online catalog of extruded parts used in the 1199 window. Manufacturers can order individual extrusions to build windows to fit non-traditional openings, which is critical for renovating older commercial buildings such as warehouses, condominiums and apartment buildings. The catalog is available at www.hydro.com/northamerica and by request on CD and in print.

Hydro's catalog features aluminum extrusions for slider windows and double-hung tilt windows, picture windows and casement designs, with drawings for each individual extrusion available to download in CAD and PDF formats. By simply picking and choosing needed parts, window manufacturers can assemble a custom window and have the materials delivered in two weeks or less. This shaves two to four weeks off of typical custom-order lead times.

"Window manufacturers have limited space to make their products," said Robert Kaplan, a Hydro North America representative. "Hydro is able to stock and release materials on demand, so these companies don't need to keep inventory sitting around. This enables small and mid-size manufacturers to compete."

Hydro Aluminum's Belton, S.C., facility fabricates the window components utilizing multiple extrusion presses.

The 1199 window design is one of the industry's most common double-hung aluminum windows manufactured for light commercial use and is manufactured by numerous companies using many of the same aluminum extrusion shapes.
