Dynamic, flexible Localeze data structure allows search engines and online local directories to provide new, richer results
CHICAGO, Nov. 28 -- Today, consumers increasingly expect more than just some company's name and phone number when they search for local- business information -- but many local search engines and online directories don't allow consumers to drill down to their actual search needs for local merchants' products and services.
Instead of drawing on "flat file" databases that can only provide bare- bones data such as contact information and broad business categories, a new generation of local-search capabilities are emerging, powered by Localeze.
Localeze recently re-launched its local-search data repository with highly structured, actionable content that allows local searchers to more quickly find the local businesses most relevant to their needs, whether they include a listing of items sold by the business, services provided, specializations, brands, hours of operation, credit cards accepted or other offerings.
Veteran local-search industry analyst Peter Krasilovsky predicts that Localeze's dynamic search-repository technology is the type of industry development that will take business listings to a new level of richness, detail and most importantly, usefulness to the consumer. "Listings have been the low-end commodity of the Yellow Pages business," Krasilovsky wrote in a recent advisory on the state of business-listing technology. "But with innovations such as Localeze's system, they may now add value and differentiate the products from the overall search marketplace."
The Localeze search technology enables search engines and online directories to turn local listings into a vibrant resource that consumers use every day, offering much richer data than they'd previously been able to provide. What's more, it helps consumers use already-familiar terms such as "Nike in Newport, RI" to find the merchants that best suit their needs.
With the dynamic structure of the Localeze repository, local search engines and online directories enable consumers to find not just a veterinarian in DeWitt, Mich., but one who offers spaying, boarding and vaccinations, for example.
"Local businesses that provide consumers with the most searchable, complete and accurate information on local merchants are the businesses that will create clear differentiation for searchers and advertisers," said Localeze General Manager Jeff Beard. "The unprecedented layers of categorization in the new Localeze repository make local searches more relevant."
