Honeywell Wins Asian Power Award For Excellence In Driving Energy Efficiency, Reducing Emissions

SINGAPORE, Nov. 14, 2006 - Honeywell (NYSE:HON) has been recognized for Excellence in Automation and Process for helping maximize energy and operational efficiency at the Samsung Fine Chemicals facility in Korea. The honor was presented to Honeywell at Asian Power Awards 2006, which recognizes leading contributors to Asia's power industry. The awards are organized by the publishers of Asian Power magazine, Charlton Media Group.

In 2003, the Samsung Fine Chemicals' oil-fired combined heat power plant in Ulsan, South Korea, was fitted with Honeywell's portfolio of Unified Energy Solutions (UES), a suite of advanced control applications used to optimize utility plant efficiency. The project sought to increase the economic load allocation efficiency of the plant's turbines and boilers, optimize boiler thermal efficiency, reduce emissions and optimize costs in a volatile business market of changing electricity prices and fuel types.

"Energy is a precious commodity throughout the world, but many power producers must strive constantly to meet growing demands while ensuring environmental safety," said Tim Charlton, publisher and editor-in-chief of Charlton Media Group. "Honeywell UES has helped the Samsung Fine Chemicals facility reduce its operating costs, yet at the same time achieve maximum efficiency in an environmentally conscious manner. For this, our judging panel felt Honeywell was the most worth nomination in the category."

Designed for electric utilities, industrial power and heating plants, the Honeywell UES portfolio enables advanced control and optimization of electricity generation, process steam and heat production. Additionally, it can help utilities save money in heat and power production, increase effective boiler operation range, optimize fuel gas emissions and extend the lives of production assets. The solution can be integrated with an array of distributed control systems, as well as Honeywell's Experion® Process Knowledge System (PKS).

Many Asian countries are stepping up efforts to become more environmentally friendly with respect to utilities. For example, Honeywell recently entered a five-year agreement with power industry network and services provider FibrLINK Communications Co., Ltd. to help China's power plants improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions. UES is included in the agreement.

"Most new power plants in Asia are coal based, and there is an increasing emphasis on environmental protection," said Amit Kansal, Power Vertical director of Honeywell Asia Pacific. "With technologies such as UES, environmental regulations do not have to hamper production. Winning this award is both an honor and a testament that we're on the right track to helping companies realize this."
