Honeywell Receives First Ever Part 91 Operator Authorization for RNP SAAAR

Company Launches 'Go Direct' Program to Offer One-Stop Service for Business Jets and Flight Departments Seeking Authorization

NBAA ORLANDO, Oct. 4, 2008 -- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced it has received two "industry firsts" for its RNP SAAAR (Required Navigation Performance Special Aircraft and Aircrew Authorization Required) program.

o The company's Corporate Flight Department is the first Part 91 operator to receive FAA authorization to perform RNP SAAAR operations. The authorization enables Honeywell's Corporate Flight Department to fly all FAA created public RNP SAAAR procedures providing greater access to airports while saving time and burning less fuel.

o Honeywell has launched 'Go Direct Services' - the first RNP SAAAR service for operators seeking to fly more precise approaches and departures. 'Go Direct Services' provides a full line of services to not only help ease the burden of the FAA approval process but also to provide tools and services to simplify the implementation.

Honeywell received authorization for RNP SAAAR operations on the company's PlaneView(TM) equipped Gulfstream G450 and G550 aircraft, which was announced at EBACE 2008.

"As an industry leader in flight management technologies and RNP authorization, Honeywell now offers business jet operators a proven path through 'Go Direct Services,'" said Chad Cundiff, Vice President of Crew Interface Products. "'Go Direct' is a turnkey solution to authorization."

RNP SAAAR allows landings in congested air space and difficult terrain. It helps business jet pilots fly safer and more direct approaches and departures and in doing so, increases operational efficiencies and reduces operating costs, noise and emissions by reducing diversions. In a recent study, Honeywell found that at the Sun Valley Airport, the RNP approach provided the lowest minimums, enabling an additional 45 hours of access each year over the GPS RNAV approach.

Honeywell earlier received consultancy designation from the FAA, enabling the company to offer business jet operators services to speed authorization from the FAA to perform RNP SAAAR operations.

The Consultancy designation granted by the FAA allows Honeywell to help operators meet performance standards and transition to the new aircraft-based navigation technology. An element of operational approval is database validation. Operators must validate the flight management system database that defines the RNP flight plan for each procedure and aircraft/avionics combination, and assure integrity for each database update cycle.

'Go Direct Services' provides customers a new database validation service to help them comply with RNP SAAAR data integrity requirements.

RNP is a key component of the FAA's next-generation performance-based navigation system. It utilizes global positioning and inertial reference system navigation, allowing aircraft to fly predetermined paths loaded in their flight management computers. Terrain, obstructions, restricted areas and changing winds are all included in the design of RNP approaches.
