Henkel Honored with Sustainability Award from Global Medical Technology Company

BD Award Recognizes Henkel's Efforts Toward Carbon Footprint Reduction

Rocky Hill, Conn. – Henkel Corporation was recently honored as the recipient of the BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) 2013 Sustainability Award. This award recognizes a BD supplier who has best supported the company's efforts toward carbon footprint reduction. Henkel was recognized both for the work it has done with BD to reduce costs and streamline manufacturing production, and for internal efforts within Henkel to demonstrate corporate social responsibility.

Henkel supplies BD with a range of adhesive technologies used in manufacturing disposable medical devices. BD based selection of the 2013 Sustainability Award on Henkel's work redesigning a custom adhesive to enhance the long-term sustainability of the production process and to control costs. Henkel repackaged the adhesive material in recyclable bulk containers, thereby controlling packaging waste and expenses and reducing the number and weight of adhesive deliveries. Henkel also designed the adhesive dispensing system and automated the process to reduce man-hour requirements and risk of injury to workers.

"Sustainability is one of our core corporate values," explained John Alberino, medical account manager at Henkel. "We want to achieve more with less and help our customers to do the same. We are so proud that BD has recognized our commitment to sustainability through this award."

BD evaluated Henkel and 12 other suppliers against three key award criteria: financial evidence of improving BD's total cost of ownership; sustainability in the supplier's operations and in supporting BD projects and programs; and corporate and employee contributions to the community through causes that benefit others. Henkel was selected as the supplier that was exceptional in all three categories.

"We congratulate Henkel on becoming BD’s 2013 Sustainability - Local Supplier of the Year," announced Chris Shanahan, BD's vice president of global procurement. "This award recognizes the true partnership we have enjoyed with Henkel in support of BD’s purpose of 'helping all people live healthy lives.' Henkel has provided us with superior performance, continuous improvement and exceptional customer service."
