Press release date: September 30, 2005

Henkel has promoted Gary Shi to the position of Technical Manager for the Research & Development of Liquid Epoxy products

In his new position at the electronics group of Henkel, Shi will assume direct responsibility for the product development of liquid products for the electronics industry, including epoxies, encapsulants, underfills, adhesives and sealants. As part of this role, Shi will undertake the management of current and ongoing development products, interacting with customers and internal product development services to create and progress standard market and customised products. Ultimately, Shi is charged with ensuring that Henkel liquid epoxy products continue to meet market needs comprehensively - both now and in the future.

The new Technical Manager will report directly to Henkel's Global Director of Research, Development and Engineering for Semiconductor Materials, Larry Crane. Speaking on the appointment, Crane explains, "I am pleased to be able to welcome Gary as our new Technical Manager for the Research & Development of Liquid Epoxy Products. His extensive experience in both the product development and electronics arenas will establish him as an important addition, capable of continuing the innovation and high technical standards that form Henkel's liquid epoxy product range."

Having gained his PhD from New York's Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Shi is a trained Chemist who has been working in the coating and sealant industry since 1995. Shi has been at Henkel for the past eight years, starting in product development at Loctite's General Industrial Division. For the last three years, Shi's focus has been concentrated in Electronics, with his latest deployment establishing his position in this division.

"I am very much looking forward to starting work in my new role," comments new Technical Manager, Shi. "Electronics is a highly dynamic industry dealing with complex and progressive technologies. As such, the position will present me with a wealth of exciting opportunities to build on what I have already achieved in various product development capacities at Henkel. In particular, I am looking forward to meeting the demands of continual industry challenges such as lead-free. More generally, I welcome the chance to drive the development of Henkel's next generation liquid epoxy product range."
