Hayden Corporation of West Springfield, MA is proud to be the first United States firm to offer large scale Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) technology from TRUMPF Laser Technologies. The laser cladding capabilities of the TRUMPF system are unique among installations of similar scale already in existence in North America. Specifically, the LMD system is capable of cladding in three dimensions with virtually no restriction on processing angle. This means that complex surface features, such as tapers, compound angles, asymmetrical transitions, lofts, and helical extrusions can be quickly and easily programmed and welded with a variety of high performance wear and corrosion control alloys, with minimal heat affected zone and distortion. The machine uses a unique "flying optics" system to deliver several kilowatts of concentrated laser energy to the work surface in any orientation. Highly accurate, robust machine controls ensure consistent path movement, energy density, and powder fl ow to deliver uniform, repeatable overlays part after part. The machine's massive scale allows cladding or cutting of three dimensional parts up to 3m in length and 1.5m in height and width (9.8' x 4.9' x 4.9').
