Harbec Plastics, Inc. Offers Prototype and Production Manufacturing using Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS)

A leader in environmentally sustainable prototyping and production injection molding, Harbec Plastics, Inc. announces that they have upgraded their DMLS machine to run Stainless Steel, Cobalt Chrome, Maraging Steel, DirectMetal20 and Titanium.

Harbec Plastics, Inc. announces that its facility in Ontario, NY has completed machine upgrades and the necessary training to offer prototype and production parts made from Stainless Steel, Cobalt Chrome, Maraging Steel, DirectMetal20 and Titanium. Direct Metal Laser Sintering is an additive fabrication technology using powdered metals and a high powered laser to produce parts in successive layers. The parts produced using DMLS are highly accurate, extremely durable, near 100% dense and have a controllable surface finish. Using DMLS for prototype and manufacturing requirements can yield parts in as little as one day. Utilizing every minute of every day, with little down time, yields fantastic throughput capacity. "DMLS will enable Harbec not only to prototype, but also be able to grow mold cavities that will allow us to meet our customers ever shortening lead times." says Harbec's General Manager, Jack Schultz.
Harbec is continuously researching opportunities to advance their technological capabilities and to reduce their environmental footprint. Many of these opportunities have been implemented to make Harbec an environmental leader in plastic injection molding. Recently, innovative methods of manufacturing metal parts were explored for implementation and direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) was chosen as a viable option based on its accuracy, speed and ability to create geometries not possible with conventional machining. The advanced technology and potential environmental impact of direct metal laser sintering would be a natural extension of their current practices.

Harbec Plastics, Inc. in Ontario, NY is an environmentally sustainable manufacturing company with custom molding, state-of-the-art prototyping, production machining and product design capabilities. Certifications include ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001, and ITAR registration.
