Press release date: March 4, 2011

(Grimsby, ON) - Handling Specialty was given the opportunity to work with Royal Caribbean International on their two newest vessels - the Oasis of the Seas and the Allure of the Seas, the worlds largest cruise ships.

Handling Specialty was awarded the contract to design, build and install complete turn-key packages for both ships. The equipment packages included three underwater lifts, two tilting diving boards and one rotating trampoline for the Aqua Theaters on both ships.

The underwater lift system forms the stage area for the largest and deepest freshwater pool at sea. Throughout the day and evening, the lifts are raised and lowered to meet the needs of each performance. The system is made up of two side lifts and a runway lift, with a total capacity of 90,000 lbs, covering an area of approximately 1,000 sq. ft. The hydraulic-actuated lifts operate with non-toxic water glycol fluid and the platform is perforated with approximately 432,000 holes to allow the stage to travel through the 20 ft deep pool with minimum displacement of water.

In order to create a barrier in the pool for movement of water from side to side, the runway lift features a vertically telescoping platform. With a platform capacity of 10,000 lbs, the equipment can withstand an average of 10 kpa horizontal "sloshing load". All three units are synchronized to a maximum of ± 5/8 inches between platforms during motion and ± 3/16 inches when stopped.

Handling Specialty is an international leader in underwater lifting systems. The company most recently designed, built and installed the underwater stage lifting system for The House of Dancing Water in Macau, China and even won a Guinness World Record for the world's largest underwater hydraulic stage, found at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas for the Cirque du Soleil show "O"
