Toronto, Canada

Press release date: October 5, 2012

Toronto, Canada – GAO Fiber Optics (www.GAOFiberOptics.com) is offering its rugged handheld visual fault locator which is commonly used for troubleshooting of both single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables. It is suitable for fiber optic network maintenance in telecommunications and CATV systems.

This rugged handheld visual fault locator, model C0280002, is able to examine all kinds of patch cords, ribbons or bunched pigtails in the installation and maintenance of fiber optic networks. With its rugged design, a universal connector and accurate measurement, the visual fault locator detects breaks and micro-bends through jacketed fiber and easily performs end-to-end fiber identification.

This fault locator can also be used for locating break points which are beyond an OTDR’s capability. It offers wavelengths from 640 to 660 nm. It is compatible with optical connectors including FC and Universal 2.5 mm adaptors. Its measurement range is up to 5 km. Its spectral width is less than 5 nm. In addition, it boasts an operating time of 30 hours with a single charge.

This rugged visual fault locator belongs to GAO’s family of Visual Fault Locators. This line includes a variety of visual fault locators such as Handheld Visible Laser Source which uses visible red light to indicate the location of fiber faults from a macro bend point, break, problem coupler or connector or a mechanical splice that is not well aligned and Pen-style Optical Visual Fault Locator which is a basic tool for the maintenance of fiber optic networks, optical systems including LAN, FDDI and ATM, telecommunications and CATV networks and is commonly used in quickly verifying continuity, and checking the validity of patch cables. This line of products is very popular for field CATV technicians and engineers.
