Press release date: November 30, 2011

DURBAN, South Africa - HP today announced it has been selected as the primary IT provider of low-carbon IT solutions for the 2011 UN Climate Change Conference (COP17).

The federal government of South Africa, which is the event host through the South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs, selected HP given the company's long-term commitment to environmental sustainability and its competitive offering.

The agreement includes solutions from HP's broad portfolio including notebook and desktop PCs, printers, data center and networking equipment, and supplies.

"HP is playing an important role in reducing the overall carbon footprint and emissions through the use of our innovative technology at the 2012 UN Climate Change Conference," said Engelina Jaspers, vice president, Environmental Sustainability, HP. "A meeting of this scale provides a unique opportunity to demonstrate both the environmental and business benefits of our technology."

HP also is an official signatory of The 2°C Challenge Communiqué, a statement from businesses that calls on governments to take action at a national level to ensure a successful transition to green growth and a climate-resilient economy.

Since COP15, the Prince of Wales Corporate Leaders Group on Climate Change and the University of Cambridge have created this communiqué for businesses to sign onto. HP also was a signatory for COP15's Copenhagen Communiqué.

The COP17 IT team and the South Africa government chose HP in part for its commitment to support environmental sustainability as a global business strategy and as a catalyst for technology innovation. HP regularly assesses and reports on its energy use and carbon footprint and by extension the energy use and carbon footprint of its customers and partners. These practices help drive energy and economic efficiencies worldwide, and will help reduce the carbon intensity of the COP17 event.

HP's overall product engineering strategy includes energy efficiency, materials innovation and design for recyclability. HP has applied the collective influence of its portfolio, operations, supply chain and partnerships to deliver low-carbon alternatives and solutions to customers worldwide.
