Press release date: September 4, 2007

PALO ALTO, Calif., Sept. 4, 2007

HP today announced that David J. Murphy has been appointed to lead a new Web Services and Software unit within the company's Imaging and Printing Group (IPG).

Murphy, 45, will serve as senior vice president of the unit, which was formed to drive web services and software applications based on HP's Print 2.0 strategy for ensuring that printing is relevant as content increasingly moves from the desktop to the web. Murphy formerly held senior positions at Mercury Interactive and IBM's Tivoli division.

The Web Services and Software unit brings together IPG's activities in the web services and software groups across all customer segments and geographies. These include: Snapfish, an online photo services company; Logoworks, a web-based services design company for small businesses; Tabblo, web-based software that makes printing easier from the web; the HP Halo Collaboration Studio business collaboration and social connection experience; as well as efforts in other areas such as digital entertainment services.

"Bringing together all of IPG's web services and software businesses in one group will accelerate our ability to capture a significant share of the 53 trillion digital pages estimated to be printed in 2010 alone," said Vyomesh Joshi, executive vice president, Imaging and Printing Group, HP. "We're fortunate to have someone of David's caliber to lead this effort."

Murphy will be based in Palo Alto and report to Joshi. At Mercury Interactive, he was most recently chief financial officer. Previously, he had been chief executive officer of Asera Inc., a web services Internet solutions provider, and president and general manager for Tivoli Systems, a division of IBM.

Murphy has a bachelor's degree in computer science and applied mathematics from University of Louisville, a master's degree in electrical engineering from Florida Atlantic University and an MBA from Stanford University.
