SALT LAKE CITY - The son of the actor whose characteristic question mark costume always signified trouble for Batman has decked out Atlantic City with an enormous sphere he hopes will become a beacon of fun and excitement. High above the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, atop the new Revel Hotel, Resort, & Casino, sits a 40-foot lighted ball built by YESCO. Revel's height and size were developed by design architects Arquitectonica to maximize ocean views, connecting resort visitors to the natural environment.

The ball, perched on top of what appears to be a razor-thin line tilting toward the ocean, emphasizes the whimsical and unexpected experience the guests will discover inside Revel. It was designed by Mitch Gorshin, Revel's executive director of fun and creative. His father, Frank Gorshin, played "The Riddler" in the "Batman" TV series. "Having worked with the Walt Disney Company for so many years, I have had the privilege over time to work with many great artisans across a wide scope of platforms. YESCO is clearly a team of passionate artisans who quite frankly, can make the seemingly impossible - possible," said Mitch Gorshin. "'The Ball' is an engineered marvel of strength, technology, accuracy and scale that in short, captures the American 'can do spirit' in all of us. I personally congratulate Team YESCO on a job well done and for their contribution to the new skyline of Atlantic City," he added.

A quarter-million programmable LED lights fuel the nearly four-story ball's unlimited capacity for change. By day the ball appears to be a large pearl. In the evening the ball will allow digital artists to create intriguing and smile-provoking images. The possibilities are endless. It can also be used to promote special days or events. Any picture or video can be programmed onto the surface of the ball, but Gorshin says it will always be an 'un-sign', never showing a logo or commercial message. Revel has no other signage, neon, billboards or name on its exterior.

The LED work of art can be seen from at least ten miles away under perfect conditions. The ball was built by YESCO in Las Vegas, Nevada. After it was tested it was dismantled and shipped to Revel in Atlantic City by truck. It was hoisted by crane seven hundred-odd feet to the top of the Revel where it was reassembled.

YESCO also built and installed signs throughout the interior of the Revel. The complex houses 1900 ocean view hotel rooms, three casinos and more than a dozen restaurants, plus concert venues, spas, shopping, and nightclubs.
