DEARBORN, Mich., August 2, 2007 - ISAAT 2007 (The International Symposium on Advances in Abrasive Technology) and the SME International Grinding Conference will join forces September 26-28, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn, Michigan to create a signature precision grinding and abrasives machining technology event. The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), the International Committee for Abrasive Technology (ICAT) and the Japan Society for Abrasive Technology (JSAT) are partners in this endeavor.
The event will be a three-day conference and exhibit program that will showcase the latest technologies in the abrasives industry. Featured speakers will give presentations on many productivity-igniting topics such as machining titanium, process monitoring/measurement, tooling characteristics, grinding special materials, surface analysis, and much more. World leaders from aerospace, research, engineering, semi-conductor, medical electronics and more will gather to share best practices in technology and processes.
Event highlights include:
Continental Breakfast & Keynote Presentation - Jerry Mraz, founder of Smaltec International, a leader in nano grinding technology, will give a presentation on "Progression of Micro-Grinding and Micro-Tooling." Mr. Mraz, a leader in micro-EDM technology, successfully transformed a distribution company into a technology manufacturing company.
Tour of the Ford Motor Company's Rouge Automotive Plant - Once the largest manufacturing center in the world, the historic Rouge plant has been renovated to showcase assembly of F-150 trucks and the latest in environmental science.
NIST-ATP Workshop - The National Institute of Standard and Technology's Advanced Technology Program (NIST-ATP) and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) will be jointly conducting a workshop on Intelligent Optimization and Control of Grinding Processes. The workshop covers the technology fundamentals and applications of a Generalized Intelligent Grinding Advisory System (GIGAS) developed to provide an improved approach to the optimization and control of grinding processes. GIGAS integrates analytical models, expert knowledge, experimental data, handbooks and vendor recommendations. The workshop will use case studies for surface, centerless, cylindrical and internal grinding operations in explaining GIGAS.
