Pheonix, Ariz. - The grass isn't the only thing greener at Arizona State University these days. Pioneering the academic world with the nation's first ever School of Sustainability, ASU has deployed several new green intiatives throughout the campus, including the addition of environmentally-friendly GreenBuilt compactors. "We chose GreenBuilt because of the solar option. They have made our operation more efficient. Our waste contractor now makes fewer trips to our campus," says Ellen Newell, Associate Director of Facilities Management, Ground Services for ASU.
Created in 2007, the Global Institute of Sustainability and the School of Sustainability are the collective results of more than 30 years of research and collaborative efforts of the faculty, students, and alumini of ASU. There is a transdisciplinary focus on solving economic, societal, and environmental challenges to sustainability that face present and future generations.
"As part of the operations management team, my role is to look at our processes and find ways to reduce our energy use while maintaining services," said Newell. "Using the solar compactor is part of our greater sustainability initiatives and our goal of lowering our carbon footprint and becoming carbon neutral."
