Press release date: August 7, 2012

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Granite City Electric Supply Company (Granite City Electric) has installed Legrand's Level 2 Pedestal-Mounted EV Charging Station at their South Yarmouth, MA location.

Headquartered in Quincy, Massachusetts the 89 year old electrical supply distributor has a history of innovation and customer service.

"Many of our customers are early adopters of new technologies. We wanted to ensure that we could not only provide them with electric vehicle charging facilities, but that we were moving with the times. Electric vehicles are gaining in popularity and there is increasing customer awareness about alternative sources of energy. It was important for us to provide free charging to customers who drive both hybrid and electric vehicles," said Bob Cook, head of Granite City Electric's energy operations. "Feedback from our customers has been excellent so far."

Granite City Electric went one step further than just providing a charging station for customer use. "We are also incentivizing customers who charge outside our South Yarmouth facility's retail lighting showroom with a 20% discount on their purchases," said Cook. "Installing a charging station is more than a service, it's also a business decision for us."

The installation at Granite City Electric is indicative of the way the commercial market is moving. "As the popularity and market awareness of alternative energy vehicles grows, so too will the business opportunities for contractors, installers and distributors. Eventually all commercial sites will need to provide facilities for electric vehicle charging and qualified electricians will be in demand for the installation process. Our Level 2 Pedestal-Mounted EV Charging Station is perfectly positioned to take full advantage of these market opportunities," said Kiran Laxman, product manager of electric vehicle supply equipment at Legrand/Pass & Seymour. "Having charging facilities available to clients is also set to be a crucial part of a business's customer services. Eventually customers and employees are going to expect that they can charge their vehicles while they go about their daily business."

Legrand's Level 2 Pedestal-Mounted EV Charging Station is ETL-certified and is available in both single and dual configurations, making it perfect for installation at light commercial sites such as office parks, apartment complexes and shopping malls.

The 20A/240V EV Charging Station is fixed on a sturdy, anodized aluminum Vista Architectural(TM) column that provides support for both the single and dual charging station configurations. It is also fully weatherproof with a NEMA 3R rating and can be installed outdoors or indoors in covered parking/charging areas.

Safety is paramount and the Level 2 Pedestal-Mounted EV Charging Station comes with built-in P&S GFCI protection with a self-test feature, ground continuity monitoring to ensure proper grounding, and communication with the vehicle to confirm electrical connections prior to charging. It also has an auto reset feature that allows the charger to re-try after a minor electrical fault. This prevents lockout and low charge situations. It is also RoHS (Reduction of Hazardous Substances) Compliant and contains a 24-foot coiled cord for easy cord management.
