RAINGER TRIPLES SECURITY PRODUCTS OFFERING Global safety trends and customer demand drive increase in mechanical and electronic security equipment

CHICAGO (OCT. 3, 2007) - Grainger (NYSE: GWW), North America's leading distributor of facilities maintenance supplies, today announced the expansion of its security product line to include a broader offering of mechanical and electronic security supplies. The events of September 11th, combined with an ongoing threat of terrorism and rising crime rates have spurred customer demand for increased safety and security products. According to industry reports, security products sales in the U.S. are expected to top $18 billion by 2008.

"We bolstered our security offering to enable customers to meet their security retrofit and replacement products, allowing them to create safer environments at their businesses and facilities," said Bob Cocks, Vice President, Merchandising, Grainger. "Our customers count on us to be a one- stop shop for a broad selection of maintenance, repair and operating (MRO) supplies so they can efficiently manage their facilities."

Customer feedback drove the addition of more security products bringing the company's total offering to more than 4,300 items. Within the mechanical spectrum Grainger has significantly increased its selection of hinges and door hardware, security doors, key control cabinets, machines, blanks and duplicators, as well as padlocks and accessories. Increases were also made to the number of cylindrical locksets, deadbolts and boltlocks Grainger carries as well as emergency exit devices, alarms, and security identification supplies.

The company also added to its electronic security offering with increased options for access control locksets and keypads, metal detectors, security cameras and supplies, and electromagnetic locks and devices.

As a result of the expansion, customers can count on a greater selection of items from well known brands such as Alarm Lock, Ceco, Falcon, Garrett Metal Detectors, GE Security, Kaba, Master Lock, Monarch, Motorola, Norton, Schlage, Speco Technologies, Von Duprin and Yale. Grainger's expanded security product offering is now featured online at www.grainger.com/securityinfo and accessible through Grainger branches across the country as well via phone for shipment.

"With our increased security products offering, customers will be able to locate needed supplies quickly and conveniently including Grainger's exclusive DynaVox and Battalion brands," said Cocks.

This expansion is part of an ongoing commitment to respond to industry trends and match customer product requirements with a comprehensive product offering, enabling customers to consolidate their MRO purchases and drive efficiency in their businesses.

Grainger serves more than 1.7 million customers from the manufacturing, commercial, government, transportation and contractor markets by providing broad access to high quality facilities maintenance products. For immediate needs, customers go to their local Grainger branch. For same day shipping, customers order via phone or the company Web site.
