Gradu to Receive SAE Award for Automotive Engineering Innovation
WARRENDALE, Pa., Jan. 22, 2008 - Mircea Gradu, Director of Transmission and Driveline Engineering at Chrysler LLC, is the recipient of SAE International's Edward N. Cole Award for Automotive Engineering Innovation. He will be presented the award at the SAE Detroit Section Meeting, April 14.
This award recognizes an SAE International member whose innovative design is described in an SAE paper or whose lifetime of accomplishment is judged to be a significant achievement in automotive engineering. The award honors the memory of Edward N. Cole, former President and Chief Operating Officer of General Motors Corporation.
Gradu has 19 years of experience in the automotive industry. Prior to joining Chrysler LLC, he held leadership positions at Daimler AG, LuK USA LLC, and The Timken Company.
Gradu has published more than 30 U.S. and international technical papers and publications and was granted 21 patents on mechatronic vehicle systems. He is fluent in English, German, French and Romanian.
A member of SAE International, Gradu is a session chair of the SAE Transmission and Driveline Committee, an instructor and session organizer for the Global Powertrain Congress, and a recipient of the SAE Forest R. McFarland Award. He is also a member of The Association of German Engineers (VDI) and presents at and organizes a number of VDI conferences.
Gradu holds a doctorate in mechanical engineering from the Technical University of Stuttgart, Germany. He resides in Detroit.
