Group Joins Coalition of 44 States

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) announced the newly-formed North Dakota Bioscience Association (ND BIO) agreed to join the Council of State Bioscience Associations (CSBA), an autonomous council operating within BIO.

"This organization will coordinate the exchange of ideas and research, develop new business relationships and expand efforts to attract economic development opportunities for the biosciences in our state. This state is home to such notable institutions as the Center of Excellence for Life Sciences and Advanced Technologies at the University of North Dakota, Aldevron and the PRACS Institute. I look forward to working with the North Dakota Bioscience Association as we seek to further expand this state's life science entrepreneurial community," said North Dakota Governor John Hoeven

Dr. James Carlson is chairman of the board for the new group, as well as the founder and President of PRACS Institute, a contract research organization in Fargo. "The North Dakota Bioscience Association comprises agricultural, life sciences and biomedical research entities - collectively known as bioscience. Although this is a new association, our membership already includes the state's major universities, private sector companies and the national trade association BIO." said Carlson.

"We are pleased to welcome the North Dakota Bioscience Association as a new state affiliate organization," said James C. Greenwood, President and CEO of BIO. "North Dakota joins a broad network of states that have formed dedicated bioscience organizations. We look forward to working closely with ND Bio to help promote bioscience industry development, champion science education, and help attract high-skill, high-wage jobs to the state. With the addition of North Dakota, the CSBA grows to 48 organizations in 44 states," said Greenwood.

"Affiliation with BIO and having the ability to participate in the CSBA will help ND Bio stay abreast of national trends and issues relevant to the sector," said Kelly Gillespie, chairman of the CSBA and executive director of the Missouri Biotechnology Association. "The CSBA is an essential and uncontested forum for state-based bioscience association executives to discuss policy matters affecting the industry as well as exchange best practices regarding association management."
