Goodrich Introduces Miniature Integrated Inertial Navigation System with GPS Technology

MicroNav® technology offers significant reductions in volume, weight and cost

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 13, 2011 -- Goodrich Corporation (NYSE: GR) is introducing its latest miniature integrated guidance technology at the Defence & Security Equipment International (DSEi) exhibition in London, UK. The tiny MicroNav® inertial navigation system supports precise, low cost guidance for a range of applications such as smaller rockets and missiles or aircraft standby instruments. The technology has been developed by Goodrich's Sensors and Integrated Systems team in Plymouth, UK.

The MicroNav system's flexible and robust design integrates the Goodrich MinIM® micro electro-mechanical system (MEMS) based inertial measurement unit - launched at DSEi in 2009 - with a state-of-the-art GPS receiver. The total volume of the new, integrated device is just over 2 cubic inches (340 cu mm), with a weight of 2.8 ounces (79 grams) - approximately one-quarter the weight and one-third the volume of current full-sized integrated navigation devices.

Stuart Cooper, business unit director for Goodrich's Plymouth team said, "The benefits of MEMS precision guidance systems, such as increased accuracy along with increased range are well understood. Up until now, only the largest precision guided munitions have been able to take advantage of these benefits. Goodrich's MicroNav provides the breakthrough that brings smart weapons technology to a wide range of smaller munitions at an affordable price."

Defense technology from Goodrich will be on display at Stand N9-360 during the DSEi exhibition, September 13 - 16, 2011, at the ExCel London convention center.
