Satellite service provider finalizes ground network infrastructure improvements in order to provide network-wide direct Internet connectivity
MILPITAS, Calif., March 12 // -- Globalstar, Inc. (NASDAQ:GSAT), a leading provider of mobile satellite voice and data services to businesses, government and individuals, announced that it has completed the hardware installation needed to finalize the company's satellite packet data network. Earlier this year, Globalstar completed the necessary installation of routing hardware and software at the company's satellite gateway ground station located in Managua, Nicaragua. Globalstar recently received a supply of IP addresses from the local Internet Service Provider in Nicaragua, facilitating the initiation of local packet data satellite service. With the implementation of the hardware and software now complete, all corporate and independent Globalstar ground stations are capable of providing packet data satellite services to the more than 250,000 Globalstar customers around the world.
The completion of the network directly affects those Globalstar data customers who use the satellite service provider's packet data network for SCADA applications and other remote telemetry monitoring applications such as the compilation and transmission of day reports from remote gas and oil wells. It can also be used for general Internet and email access. With the exception of China, these customers are now able to roam in any of the more than 120 countries where Globalstar service is available and access a direct Internet connection. The Chinese Globalstar service provider can register those customers who wish to access this service in China.
"With the completion of this network, Globalstar can now offer packet data services throughout the entire Globalstar network," said Jay Monroe, Chairman and CEO of Globalstar, Inc. Mr. Monroe added, "We continue to invest in the Globalstar ground network by installing the upgrades necessary so we may continue to deliver an attractive value proposition to those customers who require satellite data capability well beyond the capability of terrestrial wireless carriers. The completion of our packet data network will only strengthen our overall position in the MSS marketplace."

The company began installation of its satellite packet data network in 2005. Globalstar also provides attractive and cost effective simplex data solutions that are used for a variety of monitoring and asset tracking applications.
