USB Vision v1.0 Released

USB3 Vision v1.0 was released in January in conjunction with a very successful Automate 2013. The standard passed with unanimous approval from the Technical Committee and we are experiencing very heavy download volumes from the Vision Online web site.  Like all the AIA standards, it is available free from our Vision Online web-site. Licensing is then required if you chose to develop and market commercial products. V1.1 of the Camera Link HS IP Core Solutions Released

Back in May of 2012, the Camera Link HS Technical Committee released v1.0 of the IP Core Solutions for the M and X Protocol. In March of this year, the very active committee released an update (v1.1) which makes the IP cores even easier to use.  These IP cores will vastly reduce the time to market and the cost of support by giving your development team a ready-to-use reference implementation, saving as much as six months development time. The Camera Link HS IP Core solution is a group of FPGA-ready cores implementing the message layer of the Camera Link HS standard. The solution provides cores for both camera and frame grabber devices for the M and X protocols. It can be used on Altera and Xylinx FPGAs but can be easily extended to other FPGA technologies. These cores feature:



Full bridge between the Camera Link HS Message Interface and a 10Gbs Ethernet PCS/PMA core



Compliant with revision 1.0 of the Camera Link HS standard

Implements the full Camera Link HS message layer with packet priority engine

Simple signaling  user interface

Open Architecture

VHDL-93 RTL format

Both camera and frame grabber cores included



Both M Protocol and the X Protocol include a VHDL/Java test bench, Modelsim simulator, core user guide and a validation user guide. The cores can be purchased directly from the AIA. Visit the AIA web site for more information.



Pixel Format Naming Convention (PFNC) v1.1

PFNC v1.1 has been released on the AIA web site and is free to download. The PFNC 1.0 was created in November 2011 by the GigE Vision committee to generalize the definition and layout of various pixel formats so they can be re-used by the various machine vision standards. Version 1.1 introduces an appendix to list the recommended pixel format ID to be used as unique identifier for a given pixel format. These IDs are available as 32-bit and 16-bit values. This enables the different camera interface standards to share the same values, hence simplifying software development. GigE Vision 2.0, USB3 Vision 1.0 and CoaXPress 1.0 are all supported by this new appendix. Additionally, PFNC 1.1 adds some new pixel formats to support the USB3 Vision 1.0 specification.



Spring Vision Standards Technical Committee Meeting

The Spring International Vision Standards Technical Meeting is being hosted by Vieworks in Seoul, Korea from April 15-19, 2013. These twice annual meeting rotate between North America, Europe and Asia and have now expanded in scope:



- include all internationally recognized standards of the AIA, EMVA, JIIA

- local support is provided by the local vision standards organization

This ensures that the vision industry is served by a well-coordinated, global focus on standards development as the industry continues to grow and mature.

AIA’s next PlugFest will be held on April 17th from 9AM to 3PM in conjunction with the Spring International Vision Standards Technical Committee Meeting in Seoul, Korea. How You Can Get Involved with AIA Industry Standards

The AIA-hosted standards working committees are made up of a large group of companies who develop product for our industry. This dedicated group of people lends their time and expertise to advancing standards to benefit suppliers and customers alike.



The GigE Vision Committee is currently chaired by Eric Carey, R&D Director at Teledyne DALSA and Geoff Roddick, Manager of Applications Engineering at Pleora Technologies.



The Camera Link Committee is currently chaired by Steve Kinney, Director of Technical Pre-Sales & Support at JAI and Reynold Dodson, President at BitFlow, Inc. The Camera Link HS Subcommittee is chaired by Mike Miethig, Technical Manager at Teledyne DALSA.



The USB3 Vision Committee is chaired by Eric Gross, Senior Software Engineer - Vision at National Instruments.
