Glen Albert Barton Receives 2012 SAE Subir Chowdhury Medal of Quality Leadership



WARRENDALE, Pa., -- Glen Albert Barton, the retired chairman and CEO of Caterpillar Inc., has been named the recipient of the 2012 SAE Subir Chowdhury Medal of Quality Leadership. He received the award during the SAE 2012 Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress, held in Rosemont, Ill.



The Chowdhury medal honors those in the mobility industry who bring forth innovation and broaden the impact of quality in mobility engineering, design and manufacturing. The prestigious award recognizes the mobility profession's benefits to society through quality in engineering.



The award is named for Subir Chowdhury, who is Chairman and CEO of ASI Consulting Group. Chowdhury, an SAE Fellow, also is the founder of "Global Quality Awareness," a Subir Malini Chowdhury Foundation initiative.



Barton retired from Caterpillar in 2004 after five years at the helm. He joined Caterpillar in 1961 as a college graduate trainee and held numerous marketing and general management positions around the world.



A native of Alton, Mo., Barton graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1961 with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He also completed the Stanford University Executive Program in 1977.



Barton remains active on a number of corporate boards, community organizations and civic causes.
