Press release date: October 30, 2006

London - 30th October, 2006 - Frost & Sullivan confers the 2006 Product Line Leadership of the Year Award on AEG Power Supply Systems (AEG PSS) - the German subsidiary of Saft Power Systems - for its commitment to innovating products in the UPS market. These are currently used in a wide range of applications across diverse market segments.

"Based on experience of over 50 years in the power supplies market and the advantages of the global strategy of its mother company, Saft Power Systems, AEG PSS is well positioned to benefit from its consistent efforts in product innovation," notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Malavika Tohani. "The Saft Power Systems Group focuses on developing a superiorquality product range and its commitment to customer service has ensured high levels of customer satisfaction and have enabled it to attain a leadership position in the market." Reliability is one of the most important factors that influences consumers' purchase decisions, since the biggest concern of consumers is the loss in production and revenues caused by power failures. In this context, the PROTECT 5.31 UPS system and the AEG Battery Voltage Temperature (BVT) monitoring system have gained significance as they provide protection from downtime for sensitive applications.

The PROTECT 5.31 UPS possesses an exceptional overload capacity of 500 per cent, and is extremely resistant to short circuits. Besides, the (BVT) monitoring systems provide up-to date information on the charge status. Temperature and battery voltage and monitoring can be done either centrally or remotely.

The company's PROTECT 2 for mission-critical applications offers 20 per cent lower power consumption, reduced operating costs and remote monitoring. Moreover, it is highly advanced to accommodate alternative battery technologies such as fuel cells, super capacitors and micro-turbines. AEG PPS also offers the PROTECT A and PROTECT C UPS systems for smaller applications such as IT, telecommunications networks and servers.

Power quality problems such as sags, spikes and noise pose a greater problem than complete blackouts for day-to-day business operations. In order to maintain efficient and smooth running of applications, AEG PSS has introduced a sine wave PROTECT B UPS System for the 700 to 3,000 VA power range. While being of a compact footprint, PROTECT B contains a five-stage aggregate for automatic voltage regulation (AVR), over voltage suppression and EMC filtering.

The successful integration of Protect R., MIP 3000 and Protect 5. Inv.1. has been yet another important development in the field of UPS, particularly for power plants which demand robust and reliable UPS.

"All companies of the Saft Power Systems Group also provide training to maximise UPS efficiency and lower the total cost of ownership," states Ms. Tohani. "Apart from this, facilities such as remote monitoring, recycling and equipment start-up are provided to enhance client confidence."

The extensive product portfolio of Saft Power Systems also includes a wide range of products such as inverters and rectifier systems, AC and DC power supplies, power controllers and switch mode power supplies. Apart from these offerings, it is engaged in building customised and tailor-made solutions for specific applications, which include certain equipment in the oil and gas, petrochemical and power industry.

The Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Line Leadership of the Year is presented to a company that has demonstrated the most insight into customer needs and product demands. The recipient company has optimised its product line by leveraging products with the various price, performance, and feature points required by the market.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognise companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
