Genesis Microchip Appoints Robert Haefling as General Manager and Senior Vice President of DisplayPort and Monitor Business


SANTA CLARA, Calif.--Oct. 30, 2007--Genesis Microchip Inc. (Nasdaq:GNSS), a world leader in the development of image and video processing technologies for flat-panel TVs, monitors and other consumer display products, today announced that it has appointed Robert Haefling as General Manager and Senior Vice President of the Company's DisplayPort and Monitor Business, effective November 1, 2007.

Mr. Haefling most recently served as CEO of Meridian Audio Group, a UK-based company with which Genesis Microchip has a strategic alliance to manufacture and market Faroudja-branded products. He was previously employed by Genesis from 2002 until 2006.
In his new role, Mr. Haefling will oversee and execute the Company's strategic business plan related to the development, launch and sales of Genesis's DisplayPort-based products. He will also work with the Company's key partners to grow the DisplayPort ecosystem.

Prior to joining Meridian Audio, Mr. Haefling served in executive management positions at Genesis including General Manager of Genesis Microchip's Faroudja division and Vice President of Corporate Marketing. During his tenure at Genesis, he was also involved in the early stages of the DisplayPort specification, promoting the then-proposed standard on a global basis. Prior to that, Mr. Haefling worked for Sage from 1998 to 2002, as Vice President of Business Development for the Video Division and oversaw sales and marketing for the Systems Business Group. He joined Genesis Microchip as a result of the Sage acquisition in March 2002. Prior to joining Sage, Mr. Haefling held managerial sales and marketing positions at technology companies including Bell Microproducts and Texas Instruments. Mr. Haefling holds a BA degree in Finance from the University of North Texas.

DisplayPort is the new digital display interface standard adopted by VESA (the Video Electronics Standards Association). It is designed to reduce system and display complexity, provide a secure connection for uncompressed digital audio and video, while at the same time improve display performance across complete product lines. The new standard is being promoted by Dell, HP, Lenovo, Intel, Samsung Electronics, LG Philips, Genesis Microchip, NVIDIA, AMD, Agilent, Molex, Tektronix and Tyco.
