General Tools & Instruments Honored with Two Dealer Design Awards

One Product Takes Silver; One Takes Bronze

(New York, NY) Two new products from General Tools Instruments (General®) have received 2014 Dealer Design Awards for excellence in HVACR product design. General’s 6-in-1 Psychrometer with Enthalpy (EP8711P) received the Silver Award in the Testing & Monitoring Products category. The company’s PalmScope (DCS950) received the Bronze Award in the Electronic Tools category.

The Dealer Design Awards competition - now in its 11th year - is judged by an independent panel of HVACR contractors and sponsored by The Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration News (The ACHR News). Publisher Mike Murphy said, “These awards give us a unique opportunity to recognize the outstanding research and development efforts that go into many of the products serving the HVACR industry, and the awards issue gives our readers an opportunity to read about innovative installation and service solutions.”

Among 92 entries in this year’s prestigious contest, the judges cherry-picked General’s products for their innovative design, operation and function relative to the installation, maintenance and service of HVACR equipment.

“Winning these Dealer Design Awards confirms that we’re achieving our goal to continually innovate products that make the job easier for HVACR technicians and contractors,” says General’s VP of Strategic Marketing Peter Harper. “The 6-in-1 Psychrometer with Enthalpy and PalmScope offer cutting-edge technology combined with superb convenience and affordability.”

The July 21st issue of The NEWS features General’s award-winning products. See the online version of the article at www.achrnews.com/articles/127128-the-news-honors-innovation-in-hvac-product-design. The NEWS is the leading trade magazine in the heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration industries, and is distributed nationally to more than 33,000 HVACR contractors, wholesalers and other industry professionals.

The EP8711P is designed to calculate enthalpy and measure ambient temperature, relative humidity (RH), dew point, wet bulb temperature and absolute humidity (mixing ratio). It employs an integral 6-inch long sensor-tipped probe to measure conditions inside ductwork, and the probe’s ability to swivel increases placement options. With multiple measurement capacities, the EP8711P offers great versatility and utility.

The drop-resistant PalmScope is the world’s first full-featured video inspection system small enough to fit in a pocket. Plus, it can be operated with one hand, making it ideal for busy technicians and contractors. Its 2-foot long probe features a 9-millimeter diameter camera tip with four LEDs to enable the visual inspection of inaccessible or hazardous areas. The PalmScope’s clamshell design allows the probe to be coiled safely and conveniently inside the device. Inspection video is displayed on a 2.7-inch color LCD with brightness, video flip and zoom controls.
