Design Engineers Find Free Software Tools, an Interactive Product Catalog and Case Studies Detailing Innovative Uses of Belt Drive Systems
DENVER, CO - Gates Corporation has launched PT Design Source (http://www.gatesprograms.com/ptdesign?sid=prptdesign0809), a website offering application expertise, information on quality products and free software tools to design engineers in the power transmission and motion control fields. Utilizing its resources, engineers can optimize system designs to meet specific cost or performance targets.
A partner throughout the design process, from project conception and analysis to prototyping and validation, Gates offers innovative belt drive solutions for power transmission, motion control and beyond. Three stories of how Gates worked with industry-leading customers to meet design challenges are available as case studies on the site:
o Trek Bicycles: Trek recently released its District and Soho bike models for the progressive urban market. These bikes feature a unique component - the Gates Carbon Drive(TM) belt drive system, a clean, quiet and no-maintenance alternative to chain drives.
o Triumph Motorcycles: Triumph hadn't manufactured a belt-driven motorcycle since the 1920s, but Gates engineers welcomed the challenge. Developing a proprietary flame spray coating for the sprockets meant more miles on the road before belt drive system replacement is required.
o S&S Cycle: The manufacturer of motorcycle engines and high-quality components set a lofty goal for its design project with Gates: create an engine that meets high EPA emissions standards, performs reliably, costs less to build, reduces component complexity and runs quietly. The result? The X-Wedge engine that does just that. In addition to these case studies, the website offers free software tools to help engineers design drives in minutes; the interactive catalog PartView(TM) with over 28,000 drive system components and CAD models; and detailed information on solutions to common power transmission challenges, including vibration, contamination and wash down. At PT Design Source, engineers are invited to consult with Gates to achieve the best possible designs.
Gates Corporation (gates.com) is one of the world's leading manufacturers of industrial and automotive products, systems and component with operations in 25 countries.
