Gary Benson, President, Mechanovent Corporation Receives AMCA International Distinguished Service Award
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill., - Air Movement and Control Association International, Inc. (AMCA International) announced today that Gary Benson, President of Mechanovent Corporation, received the Distinguished Service Award during the AMCA 58th Annual Meeting held this year in Naples, Florida. The award is the ultimate honor that AMCA bestows upon its members and encompasses not just service to the Association, but to the HVACR industry as a whole. The award was presented to Mr. Benson by current AMCA President, Vic Colwell, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Loren Cook Company, Springfield, Missouri.
Gary, a former AMCA President, grew up in northern Minnesota and graduated from the University of Minnesota where he earned a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering and a Master's in Business Administration. He went on to hold marketing and product management positions at The Trane Company, The New York Blower Company, and in 2004 was elected President of Mechanovent Corporation. In addition to his marketing responsibilities, Gary has served as Chairman of the Board of Mechanovent Corporation and Barron Industries and was elected to the New York Blower Board of Directors in 1996.
Gary has been a champion of industry improvement, both in the development of equipment standards and business practices, since joining the industry in 1987. He was instrumental in the development of "system optimization" using microprocessor based HVAC equipment that communicates with building management systems for increased occupancy comfort, reduced energy consumption, and improved equipment reliability. Gary has chaired several AMCA committees including the Publicity Committee, Subcommittee for Statistics, Global Understanding Taskforce, Fan System Assessment Tool Taskforce, Facilities Needs Project and the Air Movement Division. In addition, Gary became a member of the AMCA Board of Directors in 1999, serving on the Executive Committee from 2005, culminating in his term as President 2007-2008, and Chairman of the Board in 2008-2009. Wade Smith, Executive Director of AMCA, commented that Gary helped mold this industry ever since he graduated from Minnesota and tackled the early integration of electronic controls into commercial equipment. Gary's legacy in the fan industry is very evident. Gary led many of the design and construction decisions for AMCA's 50,000 square foot lab in Chicago. The impact of his selfless determination on this industry will last for generations. Gary is active in several academic, business, and community organizations. He currently resides in Naperville, Illinois, with his wife Sally.
