July 2, 2009 - Gary A. Hayden, chief metallurgist and QA director at CP Industries, was presented with an ASTM International Award of Merit for his service to ASTM Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys. He joined ASTM International in 1993 and currently serves as secretary of Committee A01 and its Subcommittee A01.06 on Steel Forgings and Billets. He also chairs the editorial subcommittee, leads several A01 task groups, and works on Committee E28 on Mechanical Testing.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., 30 June 2009-An ASTM International Award of Merit has been presented to Gary A. Hayden, chief metallurgist and director of quality assurance at CP Industries in McKeesport, Pa., for his outstanding service to ASTM Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys. The Award of Merit and its accompanying title of fellow is the highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to ASTM standards activities.

Hayden, who joined ASTM International in 1993, currently serves as secretary of Committee A01 and its Subcommittee A01.06 on Steel Forgings and Billets. He also chairs the editorial subcommittee and leads several A01 task groups. Committee A01 honored him with the Award of Appreciation in 2005. In addition to A01, he also works on Committee E28 on Mechanical Testing.

A graduate of Lafayette College, Easton Pa., where he earned a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering, Hayden began his career at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corp. in 1975. In 1988, he joined the staff at CP Industries, a firm that specializes in the manufacture of seamless pressure vessels for containing or transporting pressurized gases. He assumed his current role in 1993.

A licensed professional engineer, Hayden is also a member of the American Society for Metals.
