GTEC 2007 Announces Open Text Executive Chairman to Keynote
Tom Jenkins' presentation to explore major influences that will shape Enterprise Content Management (ECM)
OTTAWA, Aug. 1 -- GTEC 2007, a leading conference for technology decision makers in federal, provincial, municipal, and regional governments, today announced that Mr. Tom Jenkins, Executive Chairman & Chief Strategy Officer of Open Text Corporation (NASDAQ:OTEX)(NASDAQ:TSX:)(NASDAQ:OTC), has been confirmed as a keynote speaker for the 2007 conference. Mr. Jenkins' keynote address is scheduled for Tuesday, October 16th. GTEC will be held October 15-17 in Ottawa.
In his keynote presentation, Mr. Jenkins will discuss the core elements that make up ECM and the major business and technical influences that can be expected to shape ECM in the coming decade. Information discovery is a critical component of ECM and the discussion will trace the history of internet based search engines from the perspective of Jenkins' early participation through to current research into meta data techniques and the impact of email as a defacto repository in many organizations today.
As Mr. Jenkins explains, "Just as Google and search technology have dominated the consumer Internet and changed the way software is delivered to users, there is an equivalent transformation underway in enterprises, focused on how organizations manage email, documents, web pages and other content their employees create every day. This tidal wave of information is breeding enormous compliance and legal risks - remember Enron - and productivity concerns when employees can't find the information they need to make good decisions. ECM is a fast growing software segment rising to help organizations meet these challenges, and it's already having a major impact on how information is managed in large enterprises. To understand the importance of ECM, consider Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, which currently dominates business software with such notable brands as Oracle, SAP, and IBM. Incredibly, ERP systems only account for 10 percent of the information in organizations today. The other 90 percent falls to ECM. As organizations work to extend ECM across the enterprise to improve access to information and gain greater control, ECM will overtake ERP as the leading software segment."

Tom Jenkins is the Executive Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer for Open Text. Recognized as one of the "100 Most Influential People" in the world of knowledge management by KMWorld Magazine for five years in a row, Mr. Jenkins has been involved with the Internet since it emerged as a major public network in the early 1990s. As CEO of Open Text, he was instrumental in the creation of one of the first internet search engines that was used by Netscape(R), Yahoo!(R) and IBM(R).
