KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA - GE (NYSE:GE) has signed a multi-year agreement to provide maintenance services for the Tuanku Ja'afar PD 2 combined-cycle power station at Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. The agreement will ensure high levels of reliability and availability and help to sustain and improve its most efficient power station in the country.
The 750-megawatt Tuanku Ja'afar PD2 power plant features two GE Frame 9FA gas turbines is owned by Tenaga National Berhad (TNB), the largest electric utility company in Malaysia. The new $31 million agreement marks GE's second multi-year maintenance program with TNB Repair and Maintenance Sdn Bhd (REMACO). The first multi-year maintenance program with REMACO was for an eight-year contract for Petronas Gas Berhad's Centralised Utilities Facilities (CUF) located at Kertih & Gebeng.
TNB President/Chief Executive Officer, Y. Bhg. Dato' Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh in his opening remarks said the three-year agreement underlines TNB's pledge and commitment to invest in new and more efficient technologies.
"This agreement will further augment TNB REMACO's reputation as a one stop service provider for power related works and also identify TNB REMACO's Repair Center as a regional repair hub, in line with TNB's aim to be a global brand." The agreement builds on the long and successful relationship TNB has enjoyed with GE, a leading global supplier of energy technology and services.
The maintenance program is designed to increase the availability and reliability of the GE 9FA gas turbines at the Tuanku Ja'afar combined-cycle power station. It also will enable the plant to maintain high levels of fuel efficiency and help reduce maintenance cycles by one third, which translates to higher availability and increased revenue in generation. The contract will run until 2014 and during that time GE will supply OEM parts and services, including technical advisory services, repair and training.
