Press release date: May 21, 2007

LAS VEGAS, INTEROP, May 21 // -- Fulcrum Microsystems(R) and Teranetics today announced a collaboration on two pizza box-style switching platforms: a dense Gigabit Ethernet switch with 10GBASE-T uplinks and a dense 10GBASE-T switch. Both platforms represent complete reference designs that enable OEM customers to go to market quickly with differentiated solutions.

Teranetics' TN1010 PHY single-chip 10GBASE-T physical layer technology combined with Fulcrum's FocalPoint FM2224 10-Gigabit Ethernet and FM2112 Gigabit Ethernet switch chips form the basis of the two platforms. The Gigabit Ethernet switch system is ideal for high-performance enterprise and data center connectivity delivering non-blocking Gigabit Ethernet switching to all connected devices with the 10-Gigabit uplinks to a backbone or server - all using standard unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cabling. The 10-Gigabit Ethernet switch is ideal for aggregating Gigabit Ethernet switches or providing native 10-Gigabit connectivity for servers and storage systems in the enterprise.

Both platforms will be a part of the Ethernet Alliance technology demonstrations taking place in booth 2265 at Interop from May 20-25.

"These new reference designs leverage ultra-high density switch chips and a single-chip physical layer solution to deliver the per-port cost- effectiveness needed for 10-Gigabit Ethernet to really take off in the data center," said Mike Zeile, vice president of marketing for Fulcrum Microsystems. "This announcement is a great sign that the ecosystem and maturity of 10GBASE-T is there for enterprises facing the need for cost- effective solutions to meet rising bandwidth requirements."

"A key factor for the success of 10GBASE-T is delivering switching port density as good as or better than any alternative 10-Gigabit PHY technology," said Kamal Dalmia, vice president of product marketing for Teranetics. "Combining Teranetics' TN1010, the industry's first single-chip 10GBASE-T PHY with Fulcrum's innovative switch chips delivers on this promise."

Fulcrum's FocalPoint, a breakthrough 10-Gigabit Ethernet switch chip family, features an industry-leading 200 nanoseconds (ns) of total latency. The FM2224 chip features 24 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports, which are all configurable to operate in 2.5-Gigabit and 10/100/1000 modes. The FM2112 features eight 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports and 16 lower-speed interfaces-all of which can be configured to operate in 2.5-Gigabit or 10/100/1000 modes.

Leading silicon solutions provider Teranetics has developed innovative 10- Gigabit Ethernet solutions over copper infrastructures based on the 10GBASE-T standard. The result is increased scalability and improved throughput at a dramatically reduced cost that makes ownership of 10-Gigabit Ethernet links possible for more data centers and enterprise networks. The unique single- chip PHY solution has made Teranetics an industry leader and a top choice among numerous OEMs and equipment manufacturers.
